WHAT IS THIS GAME ABOUT?

Heroes of the White Tower is a solo-friendly Fantasy tabletop roleplaying game that focuses on adventures in open-world, open-ended style campaigns.

The game features Heroes that are easy to upkeep but with meaningful character customization and progression.

NPCs and enemies are mostly created out of tags, and abilities. So they are easy to keep track of and created on the spot if needed.

The game includes mechanics for traveling and exploring bigger areas and also smaller "adventure locations" which can be abandoned mines, lost temples, or ancient dungeons.

The game is right now in the BETA phase and I am planning to update the game as regularly as I can. Naturally the more people are exited about the game, the more I will prioritize rolling out new updates and fixes!

MECHANICS

The Game is very simple 2D6 + Discipline where you always have to beat 10

You can always force success and succeed without rolling, but that comes always with a cost.

The game is also "Hero facing" meaning that the dice are rolled only for the hero characters.

Magick is "open-ended" so only the caster's imagination and their elemental domain are the limit.

THE WORLD

The World of Tolvarion is a very implied setting, where I wanted to leave as much space as possible for people to come up with their own stories.

The world is coming out of an ancient war, where the element of darkness tried to take over the other elements. The war is long gone, but the aftermath of these ancient battles has left the world corrupted and scarred.

Now the new generation of heroes among all six elemental kin, must rise, venture into the lost lands, and reclaim the fallen elemental spires.

THE BUSINESS AND ETHICS

I am a small indie developer and one-person show. So I am very exited that platforms like Itch.io exist. My idea for the game is to have it here as a free beta/ early access where you guys as the community can give me feedback to develop the game even further.

The game right now uses AI images as a base, which I have then, photo-bashed, traced, blended, and touched to also share my vision for the game in visual form. (and also to phase out the reading experience.)

However, I aim to gather enough funding with donations, and the final product that will be for sale would then have human-made art.

I am planning to make a (early access) paid tier for the game, which the early supporters can buy to fund the game. This purchase will warrant a PDF copy of the final game.

Thank you for checking out the game! more details in the future!

WHAT I GET RIGHT NOW?

- The core rules of the game (89 pages.) include 6 different kin and 12 different roles.

- Systems to have open-ended adventures in an open world.

- Basic Oracle tables to play as a standalone solo or mix and match with other oracles (that's what I do anyway because having more tables is having more tables)

WHAT I CAN EXPECT IN THE FUTURE?

- More detailed beginner guide for those completely new to solo and group tabletop roleplaying.

- Examples of magical items and mysterious artifacts.

- Examples of Different enemies in the World of Tolvarion.

- Overall fixes and updates that I come across or that are being reported to me.

- (Hopefully) some actual art!

- A beginner adventure with examples of traveling and adventure location procedures.

- Even more solo support!

Game looks good. Are the arts AI-generated?

(+2)

For now yes. But as I have announced in my latest post. I have now an artist working with me to bit by bit change all the art from the book to be original works. I will probably add some stretch goals for these later in order to hasten the gaining of funds.

When I have original art from artist I will start to officially sell the product and take it out of beta. (And also when the game is done.)

Thank you for your feedback! I was hoping to make the rule system a little bit more open-ended and use common archetypes so that people could fit the game into their playstyle, I will read the system carefully again while keeping your comments in mind.

ps. I have also been dabbling with this kind of "Classic Fantasy" supplement that would provide classic fantasy kin like elves, orcs, humans and halflings. The supplement would also include some tips on how to convert monsters from OSR into HotWT.

Whenever I get to it I will probably publish it here for free or just make an appendix out of it into the book. No promises on tight deadline thou I really have my hands full still with the game itself. :D

Looks great! Especially liked the role-specific advancement lists: lots of customization choices for different kinds of playstyles, and the roles stand out in their own area of expertise.

Thank you for the positive feedback! Let me know if you have any questions or additional critique.

This looks cool! If I have something interesting to say about it, I'll make a video on the Dungeon Dive YT channel.

Thank you, Daniel! I'm a fan of your channel and a fellow (starting) creator as well.

If you have any questions or thoughts please send them in my way.  I am grateful and keen on hearing any possible critique or feedback you have.

I know some wordings in the book are not quite there yet but I'll keep working on it!

Walther.
